Singing in the rain

Yep, the dog and I are both fans of walking in the rain and finally we have some!  A 7.30 wander combined with some bad singing (me) and thundering through the undergrowth (Keith) is a fine start to the day. I was on early morning dog duty as the husband is in Italy, somewhere beautiful I suppose. He will be back at owlfart, I miss him more on quick trips than his longer jaunts. My mind goes into a long learned routine when he's away for many nights. It is strange being "single" for these periods of time, I couldn't imagine doing it permanently, we are a strong partnership, 35 years and counting. I still adore him, his crazy humour, kindness, and obsession with detail, This may be his ultimate downfall.... hehe.
We are having major issues with the subsiding conservatory- still! The insurers have now involved our local council (god help us) as an oak tree owned by the council has roots that trespass on to our land. I'm hoping it will all be settled before the earth cools and hell freezes over, or not.
My veg garden is planted and seedlings are popping up. I still find it incredible that these little dried up seeds can produce plants and ultimately food. Simple things.  We have lost the great tit nest, either a squirrel or a cat ripped the nest box apart. Probably a squirrel as cats tend to leave headless bodies behind. I truly detest cats and their dumb owners who insist "It's only nature".  Actually, it isn't because you feed you moggies (presumably) so you are interfering with nature, taking the bits of behavior you like and ignoring the huge decline in songbirds is pathetic and selfish. I was very pleased to score a direct hit with a huge clod of earth on one feline head, as it lurked in my garden. Small victories.
Our delightful neighbour gives us spare bulbs and plants from his garden, such a kind thing to do. Him and his wife are mature in years, but young in outlook and enthusiasm for life. It's a lesson I need to learn. Sometimes days are long and troubled, but these are infrequent. I am glad to be alive, with my bloke, amazing daughters and their other halves, a delightful granddaughter and a whiffy dog.
