Phew what a scorcher...
...as certain redtops describe the merest hint of sun. Actually it would seem a quite accurate description of our current weather. Everywhere is scorched, including my nose, ouch. The dog is busy rounding up flies and poking frogs with a shaggy paw. We are lucky enough to have a few frogs around the garden, added to the hog that visits, which means very few slugs. I was lucky enough to see a bloody enormous hornet drinking from the pond, a truly magnificent, if somewhat scary beast. We also currently have the huge green/blue dragonflies flitting over the pond, I love them.
Husband chops is off on his travels, which means the house is tidy but very lonely. I am occupying my time with ridding the dog of fleas, which we think came from our holiday let. I have invested in a zapper comb thing which kills the little buggers. It also seems to give the dog an erection. Oops. I'm also going for more but shorter dog walks, to try and keep Keith cool. We had a wander along the canal at Stoke Bruerne at the weekend and nearly fried ourselves, not very clever.
The baby shower was good, little Miss received many beautiful and thoughtful gifts. I made a little speech and mum-to-be cried, She is a brilliant daughter and I'm sure she will be a good mum when the baby arrives. I have little or no motherly advice for her as things have changed so much from when I was a new mum. My first was weaned at 10 weeks, nowadays it seems you wait until they're nearly at school! I have had a peek at several online mum type websites, and found all the acronyms very confusing, Plus babies seem to need so much more stuff now. Maybe I'm just ancient.
Other daughter and her new wife are off on their honeymoon soon, a trip to America! very exciting. They have a very detailed schedule, I seem to produce organised children. God knows how, I am not well blessed in the planning and forward thinking department and I have a shocking memory. I did once leave the eldest daughter outside a shop in her pushchair and began happily wandering home. Oh dear.
I find it difficult to sleep when himself is away, so I have been reading myself into eye closing. Political biographies seem to hit the snooze button. Paddy Ashdown is my current bedside companion and I am equally intrigued and annoyed by him at the same time. I admire his drive and dedication to his career, but find his affair deeply sad. I could not forgive a cheat, and I would never be one. It seems to be a common theme among politicians, sadly. If you can cheat on your life partner, how can your constituents have any faith in you?
Well, that's enough of my ponderings, Keith has just rescued a pebble from the garden and is chasing it around the lounge with his snout. I must liberate it before he breaks something!
